Have you ever done auto directory submissions?
Ie letting software submit for you.. is this dangerous? Can it be seen as spam?

I've never done any AUTO but I have done semi-auto. Meaning, software that loads each submission page and then fills the form out for you. This allows you to see where and what is being submitted.

I tend to stay away from fully-automated software.

Besides, a lot of directory places now have a way to stop things like that, but yet again many directory sites are unprotected against auto submission software.

I wouldn't trust full auto software. If something went wrong, I don't know, something, then there could be bad effects on my site. I don't know WHAT could go wrong, but I'm not taking any chances.

I always submit manually, but may stop doing even that. I don't think most directories are worth the time.

It's worth it to submit to directories, and it's the best way to build links when you first get your site off the ground. However once you start trying to optimize for specific keywords I don't think it's the best.

Why is that devilscharm?
I thought you'd have to keep submitting even as the site ages?

I think you are right on there.
What could go wrong is a ban from the search engines, thats what i am thinking?

A search engine ban, that would suck. I don't do directory submissions anymore, except for some reciprocals.
