Has anyone used Ruby on Rails to any good effect in setting up the framework for their website? If so did you have any real knowledge or understanding of Ruby before getting involved?

What kind of learning curve did you experience?

I don't know any Ruby, I see it as one of those weird, unknown languages like Coldfusion, but I know a lot of people use it.

What is Ruby on Rails? Is it a CMS system or a PHP Framework like CakePHP? Please post a link.

CakePHP? What's that? All I know is that it's making me hungry.

As for Ruby on Rails, although I know very little about it, I know that it's used a lot, because people on SitePoint are always talking about it and using it.
