Has anyone heard of people who go around trying to register domains when they're about to expire? There are programs that show when popular domains are about to expire, so if the owner doesn't realize they need to re-register, and they lose it, then people jump on it and steal it (well, "legally" steal it). I think it's wrong, I was reading this topic about a guy who ran a successful business but then he lost the domain, and now he's basically ruined. I hope no one here participates in anything like that.

Yes, I've heard of this and even thought about doing it. It is a good way to get targetted traffic.

What do you mean get targetted traffic? The point of doing this is for money, not traffic.

What do they get out of stealing a domain that is about to expire? I don't quite understand why they would steal it when it will be expired shortly.

I did have one lol. But I have installed some mods for my IPB, (free 1.3) after the last backup and you can understand how it's like when installing IPB Mods. lol. Let's forget this and discuss about general domain picking than my problem :) lol. I forgot it. And now making a personal site.
