Before assembly, was there any other programming language? I know there was binary, but I don't really count that (even though technically it was the first).

I'm not sure but I think binary was it. There may have been some machine code other than asm but I don't think so....

That's what I thought. I'm always hearing that assembly is the closest to binary so it's logical that it was it's successor.
