I;ve been coding using the php language for about 4 months now, but I'm not that good yet - I'm trying to get better though, but who knows how long it'll take.

Around a year now, I don't actually code custom PHP applications but prefer to hack/tweak applications.

I feel so puny... at least I can answer the question very easily. Doesn't take any thought at all. 0 years, 0 months, 0 weeks, 0 days, 0 hours.

I started playing around with php around 2 years ago.
I never really coded but I modified a lot of stuff, so my knowledge is somewhat limited.

About 5 years. Before that, I wrote in ASP, and before that, in Perl. PHP has definitely been my preference. I've even obtained my Zend Certification.

A certification, aye? I bet that comes in handy. Wow, 5 years, and you've been overall programming longer than that! The first time I wrote a "Hello World" program was maybe a year and a half ago, maybe two years.

The certification helped in my case mainly because most of my experience has been developing intranet applications, which means they're not publicly available. I decided to get the certification to help make up for the fact that I can't show the majority of my work to potential clients.
I'm sure you've come a long way from "Hello World!" Keep it up!
