to get more downloads? I've submitted to all of the shareware sites and started an adword campaign. What other methods are being used to increase downloads?? I do not have a lot of money to spend on advertisments.

Individual promotion. In other words, promote each software title/webpage like you would your main webpage. Get links to each software webpage and do seperate campaigns for each one.

That works very well.

Have you also submitted to all directories? Those can get you a lot of PR.

What else have you done to promote each software title?

Overture is great for PPC, I think!

I think it would be hard to promote each download separately, but if you submit your site to a lot of directories and get your site a high PR, then all your software should succeed equally.

Try a press release. They are usually very helpful in these type of cases

Digg might also be a good option if you can get it to the front page. It does well for software web sites

Everyone is talking about Digg, I should try submitting something there. Well, I don't really have any good technological articles, man. By the way koolkid, where do you go to submit press releases?

Hello,

I have some suggestions for you to get more downloads.

1. release some freeware (treat them as marketing tools).

2. start a newsletter and allow visitors to signup for it.

3. if you can do, start a forum on your website, people like forums.

4. update your software frequently and release it.

5. analyze your website traffic and optmize for search engines.

good luck.

Yes, freeware can work wonders. People will download something that is free. Add a new form or splash screen that asks if they would like to upgrade. This can bring your software downloads and sales to a new level.

Very good ideas. I'm not sure I can write a great article for Digg though.

The free software idea sounds like a great way to promote software. Craveww or lop, have you done this with much success?

If you give someone a free version of something, but it limits them heavily yet still shows them how great the program is, they would probably want to upgrade.

I know that when I once downloaded a game, it was pretty limited (you actually only got 5 minutes to play, and at the end you exploded), and I really wanted to buy the full version. I didn't need to though, cause my friend got the game and then he just gave it to me.
