Which one would you prefer in advertising your site? Which of these two would be the best way to advertise your site? What are the differences among these two?
For me, I guess I would go for free yet for I'm don't have yet a really great site. I guess paid advertising is usually done by those who really make the online job their main work.
Paid or Free Advertising?

I like to do a blend. I do all of the free stuff first such as submit to directories and join link exchange directories. These are a great way to get a higher PR rating and free visitors.
Once I've done most of that I start creating paid ad groups usually only PPC like google's adwords.
I've also bought links from other sites which seems to work pretty well. You get free links usually on a couple of hundred pages. Beware of the sites that sell link farms. I target only single sites that are selling a couple of spots on their main page for linking. Be very carefull because you will receive a penalty for link-farms.

I prefer free only because I'm broke! I've heard of sites that can reach large numbers of visitors from only free advertisements.

I do like to use Adwords. If you know what you are doing then you can have fantastic results.
Make sure you dont waste your money though, its easy to do (similar to gambling!)

I don't know much about adwords but you should have a very unique name for a specific topic from your site so that people would go to your site based on the word they are looking for. Besides I think advertising in adwords is very competitive, there are lots of sites that may have exactly the same way as your topic.

I pay to have people link to my site, but that's more of an SEO thing. For my advertising needs, I do it the free way, as in simply telling people.

I do very little paid advertising, in fact, I do little advertising in general. I'm more of an SEO guy, I think in terms of SEO instead of advertising. With advertising, it's not targeted as much as with SEO, and usually you waste a lot of money on it. Wtih SEO, you know you're going to get good results.

Same here, SEO is better to invest in than advertising. Advertising can only bring people to your site for a short period of time, SEO lasts a lifetime (if you can maintain your position).

I use both approaches depending on the site. My content-oriented sites are more SEO than anything, although I do admit I am lazy when it comes to linkbuilding. I'm trying to change this though.
I'm giving affiliate marketing a try on some new sites, and I'm doing both SEO and PPC on those sites. The PPC hasn't really paid off yet because I'm still experimenting. Finding cheap keywords for certain topics is very difficult.

I'm never going to do PPC, because my site doesn't sell anything and makes all it's money from AdSense, so you see how it just wouldn't work.

I pay to advertise by placing banners on high traffic related sites.
This can get you SO many visitors and is well worth paying for.

That must cost a lot of money. I can see how that would be effective if you are selling something, but my site makes money off ads. I don't advertise so people can click on my ads! Ha.
