So I will need to be traveling shortly, and I though about getting a netbook instead of carrying around my huge 16 inch HP.
What netbook would you recomend?
I'm not sure if I should ge one with a cd/dvd drive, or buy one of those usb portable drives.
I kind of like the Toshibas. Not Dell's. And I have always wondered about MSI and Viliv(The S7) laptops.
What can ya'll tell me?
My HP gets really hot, but it's 2 or 3 years old and runs and AMD Turion 64x2.
So that's kind of why.
Thanks!

I've owned a Dell Inspiron Mini 10v netbook previously and I don't particularly like it, the touchpad was weird and figity to use, the keyboard was OK but I didn't particularly like typing on it. Dell have released a new version of the Mini 10v renamed as Inspiron 10, which has a new casing design and similar but new keyboard design, with a somewhat better touchpad as far as I can tell. Still, eitherway I don't recommend the Dell Inspiron Mini netbook(s) whatsoever.
I've seen and used a Toshiba NB200 and the keyboard was nice to use; as it had isolated keys - a large spacious touchpad. Although for some reason if you did any medium to big tasks the cursor would not move for a split second even though you're moving your finger on the touchpad. Mind you, I had a refurbished model so that issue can have been fixed by now. Either way, Toshiba have released a new model, and I'm sure it shouldn't have the same issue I had (but I can't guarantee that, obviously). The new Toshiba model is named by NB305, and it has the familiar awesome isolated key-style keyboard and large spacious touchpad. It's an attractive option, imo.
Another netbook I've seen (but not particularly used), I'm just giving you options here - is the EeePC 1201HA (see here or here if you live in UK). I love the fact that it has an isolated-style keyboard like the Toshiba has, but the only thing is that it's actually a 12" screen.
Hope I've helped.
Ive always liked sony vaio laptops. Although they tend to be quite expensive, I find that the build quality makes up for it, and from what ive seen of other netbooks and notebooks, they are at the top end of all the specs; The battery life is longer than other models, they're made of a very lightweight material, the screen is sharper than average, etc.
Another advantage is that there are so so many different series of models, you will probably find exactly the sort of laptop you want.
As for whether to include an optical disc drive, I personally would always get one. Having an external drive negates the point of carrying around a small trendy netbook, and if you had one, your netbook could double up as a dvd player, which is always nice for travelling. And Im pretty sure all the sony vaoi laptops are blu ray, if they have one.
I know I sound like a total fanboy, but ive been through so many different laptops over the years I think my judgement comes from experience not from any prejudice. As I said, the only downside that ive found is the premium price tag. Anyway good luck with it!
