Well as the title says, what makes an Os more stable then others? for example what makes Vista more stable then XP, and what makes Linux more stable?
Thanks.
I don't know that Vista is more stable then XP though from what I am hearing..in my voyages to other forums. I think stability comes from time tested software?
Yes, that would reduce bugs, but well what softwares/Os does not have any bugs? So I don't think that that is it?
The kernel makes it more stable and the coding of the kernel.

Linux can be stable as it gets regular updates and virus-free. (99%)
And Windows for it's User friendliness.
I think another aspect of stability is going to be in the architectural design. Linux is highly modular. As a result, if one piece crashes, it won't take down everything with it. Windows 9x was highly integrated, so if something went wrong it stood a high chance of bringing the kernal down with it.
Linux and Mac are both basically immune to hacking and viruses. I've heard bad things about Windows Vista, I'm definitely not getting it until it's been out for 6 months and can get fixed.
