Unless AMD manages to produce a power efficient quad cpu > 2.5ghz they will loose substantial market; the Intel i7's are incredible.

    Re: AMD and intel talk

i understand intel makes faster processors, but i cant help but root for the lil guy.
at least intel has SOME type of competition to keep them from deciding their prices should double for shiggles.

also i read somewhere that AMD is going to be supporting usb 3.0 and intel wont be for another year (or something like that..)

wouldnt that give them some type of slight gain(behind or not) on this overall race?

well idk bout the USB 3 thing, cuz im pretty sure its the chipsets that support it and thats already taken care of... i could be wrong tho. intel makes faster high end, but if you get the top end amd one for 800 dollars less you will have almost as much speed. Is 800 dollars really worth it for something not humanly noticeable without a benchmark?

For most of the computing I do, I just need a mid-range CPU. In that case, price becomes far more important than bleeding-edge speed.

with todays CPU's, all anyone needs is a mid range CPU unless they plan on virtualizing or being a server for a ton of people. Graphics cards affect gaming so many times more than processors.

Depends on the game, some games horde many physics processing tasks to the CPU. Examples are nearly any RTS-style game.

I won't touch AMD maybe until they get their act together with Bulldozer and OoOE/22nm die processes, Intel is going quite a different way than AMD.
