Default Blu-Ray Technology

This kind of media will be released this coming June. What are your expectations from this technology? As of the moment, it will be mainly used for PS3 that will be released after Blu-Ray is in market already.

Imagine a 20GB is capacity that you can store in just one Blu-Ray Disc. This would be an awesome technology. Do you think it would wipe out our current CD's and DVD's?

In time it will take over, like cd did from disk and dvd is doing for cd now, but it will take a while blu-ray also has to watch out for competition from hd-dvd or whatever it's called.

You are correct for the hd-dvd, it is already in use on X-box but I think not too much publicity has been done to hd-dvd.

Gamers are already waiting for PS3 and that would be the main market for BD but let's see how PS3 works and sell in the market.

PS3 is going to be very expensive. They also use a new technology for the CPU in it. I forget what it is called but it is like 7 processors.

I think that the battle between Blue Ray and HD-DVD will turn out like DVD + and -. The technology is awesome though!! 20GB! Does HD-DVD hold the same amount of data?

It's painfull to see that there will be 2 different things I like one standard but maybe this will influence the prices in our favour.

Yech. A Standards War isn't anything I want to get involved in. When they can stop acting like children and compromise/agree, then I'll pay attention and spend some $$.

That being said, I'm not sure what 20GB on a DVD really gives me. It's (still) too small to do a decent backup, and for the great majority who haven't gone HD - does it make any sense for video? It seems to me that most things are still being shipped on CD, not even DVD, so I suspect the uptake on "SuperDVD" will be marginal at best.

I agree. What good is 20GB? I still don't even use DVDs for any kind of backup. Its too small for a large backup and to big (and too expensive) for minor backups that will fit on a small CD. I've only noticed a couple of games/apps being released on DVD but you always have the option to buy the CD version as well.

I bet this will be expensive for video rental stores!
