Yes, computer generated passwords are the safest but if the generator is too complex then users won't be able to remember the password.

I don't like to use password management programs. I keep my passwords in a password protected file but I don't worry much cause my family knows next to nothing about anything computer related so they probably wouldn't be able to get into my account and then into my files.

Password management programs are risky. Most of them are hacked into regularly by trojan spywares. If you have a good firewall, you ll notice they try to connect to the internet using OLE or some other automations. I prefer my own passwords. They are easy to remember, and are known to me only!

I agree password managements aren't the best idea to use. I like to use a spreadsheet to store them in, my family isn't that bright so they couldn't possibly get into the file anyways.

I'm sure it's possible to password protect spreadsheets, so you could just remember the one password to access all the rest of them. Or, take the time to construct and memorise a really strong password, and use it for everything.
