Firefox for me is only 54, I don't have any idea what this means though.

Neither I. I just know that I got that score.... there are no grading criteria that explain like 50-70 it means....

So the acid test is useless i guess, since it doesn't explain what's the point of it.

Basically Acid 3 is a series of test suites. When you get 100% on a test suite it counts as a single pass. So basically 54 means that Firefox gets 100% on 54 of the test suites and less than that on the others.

The Webkit/Safari guys went into how they went from 54 to about 90 in a matter of weeks because there was a huge bunch of tests they had almost passed.

It's quite good that we have two browsers (albeit beta's or even alpha's) that pass Acid3, the last one took an age to pass properly and it shows that we are at least seeing some progress on the web standards front. Looks to be a battle that will be won in spite of Microsoft.

Essentially the tests are designed to cover the functionality that has been broken in web browsers in the past, or is as of yet completely lacking in implementation. The W3C standards often lack a base implementation so in a way the acid tests show how the standard is supposed to work. It enables browsers to target something rather than going on their merry way and coming up with 5 different interpretations of the standard. It also robs MS of the ability to say 'The standard was vague' when they do something utterly contrary to what the standards say (as MS tend to, having done everything in their power to break the internet).

I personally suggest Mozilla Firefox. It's far more secure than IE. Reasons being that IE is fully integrated throughout the Windows OS. It is your 'My Computer' and all of that ya know? Firefox is a stand-alone web browser. Also, ActiveX is disabled by default. ActiveX controls are possible reasons why spyware and malware could be affecting your PC. So just head over to Firefox web browser | Faster, more secure, & customizable You won't regret it. Give it a try and i m sure you will really like it.

Firefox isn't necessarily more secure but it can be it depends on your settings, what extensions you have and so on. I got Firefox 3 today and absolutely love it.

Yes it surely does but why do you like Firefox. IE is good also and opera is also really good for somethings. Firefox is the fastest but some of the other softwares are really good.

Anybody try, Safari for Windows. I did awhile ago, and I think it's a joke lol it's horribly slow IMO.
