I believe someone can trick users into thinking their site has a high PageRank, but it is impossible to actually manipulate the real ranking, calculated by Google's servers.

Well, it's not possible to actually increase your PR, but you can trick the PR, as far as I read...

I suppose tricking the user can be useful in some instances, such as link selling.

Whoever does that is really stupid, in my opinion.

Yeah it is a stupid thing.. but some people used to do it a lot, although lately there are websites (PR checkers) that check if the PR is true or fake.
