How do they do it?

I wonder how they do this:
You search for example a term and then in the Google results you will see websites (sort of search engines) with the URL something like www.website.com/search.php?q=your+search+term

Or something similar. How can this be done?

Thats the Google API. You can use it to scan your own website or display results from the web.
