    good deal or not?

My uncle called me today. He has his own plumbing business that was doing extremely well before the recession hit but is now going rather slow. He called me today to ask my opinion on a service offered by a company that keeps contacting him. I am not that familiar with SEO so I told him I would ask around. Here's the service:

The company will provide a page with his business name, contact information, and a link to his website if he desires one (he does not currently have a site but has ask me to make one for him). They have told him that this page with his information is guaranteed to come up on the first page of Google when you type in plumbing (by some type of map? I don't use Google). They want to charge him $1,499.99 a year for the service with a $375 set up fee. I don't think it sounds like a good deal myself but I really don't have anything to base that judgment on.

    Thoughts?

Sounds expensive! but it may be worth it. How saturated is the plumbing market on the Internet? Could you rank him #1? for less?

I doubt that I could personally. I have no SEO experience. That's why I told him I would ask around, I really don't want to give him bad advice as he is like a second father to me. I read the contract and it said he would be in the top 7 next to the map. I looked and the map is the third thing on the page with 7 results next to it. and then a "view more" link. The view more has about 4 pages worth of results so it could be worth it but i'm not really the person that should advise him on this.

Hard to say, imo. I have never paid a company either. What does he expect for an ROI for advertising on the net??

No clue. I will have to ask him tomorrow it is late and I don't think it would be a good idea to call at this hour.

I think he would do better to get a few radio ads with that money.
