What is Black Hat SEO and what techniques does it involve? Can you get to #1 position on Google using it or will they catch/ban you first?

Basically Black Hat SEO is trying to increase your search engine ranking in an "unethical" (bad) way. Like spamming your site with keywords (even irrelevant ones), invisible text etc. etc. If you don't overdo it the search engine might not figure out what a bad person you are, but if I know you right, relapse, you'll get caught within minutes j/k Anyway, this might interest you: Google Report a Spam Result

There are a few bad things to do, basically if there is text on your page that the user cannot see but search engines can that would increase that word's relevance, some users try putting into a div and hiding it several different ways, Google claims it cannot go through JavaScript but can parse strings for hiding elements.

"Link Bombing" is another example to get this done the not so good way.
