I have a website which is ranked on #7 on first page of google for my desired keyword.
Now i noticed that all the other websites which are ranked above me have keyword in their URL.
Shall i also consider to include keyword in my URL?
and if so i will need to rewrite the URL and i think that will hurt the rankings ?
what do you guys think?
I read somewhere that rewriting urls could potentially be bad. Google said it wouldnt matter. They suggested not rewriting urls and not putting a bunch of keywords in there.
If you keep the keywords to a minimum either way is fine.
site.com/keyword_index.php
that should be fine.
I have always read that keywords in the URL will increase your rank. As proof, I've seen many website do it and succeed. However, you can succeed without it. Search for "Programming Forum" on Google, you will see us as #1 but we do not have keywords in the URL.![]()
The advantage of keywords in the URL is that it's easier for people to remember the URL if they haven't bookmarked it.
Keyword in the domain name is very important SEO factor. Of course, you can do anything you want with backlinks, but keyword in domain (and in url is helping).
Thanks

If you add one searched keyword/tag in the URL, you will be better seen by the search engines. And after all, this is the goal, isn't it?
Of course, try to add a well searched tag into the URL, otherwise your efforts might be a waste of time.
Yeah ,keyword in the url helps to get some impact. But you rewrite the url it will affect the rankings.so try to promote your site with the same old url.
If you use the 301 error number to redirect you old url , I think this can remain you rank of you url.
