    To get your site ranked high on Google you need to get links back from other sites using the keywords you want as your anchor text in the link. For SEO just have content that has your keywords several times and a great title.

    There are a few pitfalls regarding SEO that you need to be aware of. I find the best way to discover these is to turn off all CSS in your browser (you can do this with the Web Developer extension) - first of all, you should not see any of the layout at all. If you do, then you have mixed the content up with the appearance in the same page.

    Look at the text - is everything on the page there? Is the page complete (minus the design)? If it is not, then look and see why some of the content has disappeared. Commonly when this happens, people find they have rasterised text into images, a big web no-no - not only for SEO, but also for speed and even legal issues.

    Most probably the most important area of getting your website high ranked on Google is links.

    It is best to get other sites to link to your site, so maybe link exchanging? The text of the link is also another very important area. Let's say someone linked to this thread from their website and the link name was SEO. It would get fairly high ranked, because the term "SEO" is mentioned a lot in this thread. Also when the spider finds your site from another, it will scan all the links on this website then read all them too.

    The more links the better, maybe this is why Wikipedia is so highly ranked. They must have a script that when an entry to Wikipedia is posted, it edits part of the text that they have a page on and change it to a link. So let's say, I created an entry and I mentioned HTML in it. HTML would then be linked to;
    Code:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Html
    And on that page HTML is mentioned a fair bit causing the spider to rank really high. SEO tutorial;

    Interesting fact; This page has 323 links, the HTML page for Wikipedia has 719.

    Sorry if I don't post as often as I did, I'll try to get here as much as possible! I'm working my bum off to get this scholarship and other stuff!

    You gotta start with on-page optimization. Make sure to optimize each page, not the homepage alone and don't mess up loads of keywords in a single page. Keep the keywords count for each page to minimum and stuff them all well with quality content. Once you're done with this, you can move on to off page optimization including links.

    Re: SEO and My Site.

    here is a brief plan for you.

    First of make sure you have some unique updated content..

    secondly check your meta tags and insert your main keyword to corresponding webpage in that section. Meta tags contain meta title (most important), meta description (very important), and meta keyword (least important). you need to include your main keyword in meta title, and meta description followed by meta keyword where you can include all the keyword which represent that webpage. (typically between 10-12)

    Now in your webpage content, try to include your main keyword in the starting paragraph if possible start with the keyword , then at least once in the middle paragraph and then include it in the last paragraph. Bold your main keyword at least once.
    If you have images in your webpage, then use alt attribute for that and include your main keyword there. Please remember while using keywords for images that your image must reflect your keyword. Otherwise it will be a spam technique.

    This is pretty enough for on-page optimization.

    Now move on to off-page optimization.
    Get some quality links with either one way links or reciprocal link exchange.

    One ways links can be formed using directory submission, article submission, video submissions, blog commenting, contextual links, forum posting using signatures, PAD submissions, social bookmarking, social networking participation etc.

    Best of luck for you SEO campaign.
