Many hosting companies put hundreds of websites on a single ip address. This is a common practice since ips are short and web sites are not.
Does having your site hosted on a server with several hundred other sites under 1 ip address affect the site's seo any?
Yes, google penalizes you for this and google is the only Search Engine that matters, ATM.
I'm going to start moving sites to their own ips then lol. Thanks!
I would although I don't think it hurts that much. If you figure it out, let us know.
I'm no SEO expert, I would really like to hear from a real expert though![]()
Theres a little trick that you can use if you want to see how many sites are hosted on a webserver
First move to Live Search then in the search field put this
IP:<192.168.1.1> replace the Ip 192.168.1.1 with the IP of the WebHosting Provider and you will find every site that is hosted on that server
I never knew about that trick, I've always used domaintools. +rep! Thanks!
also, myipneighbors.com
Find someone who is hosted on godaddy, hostmonster, bluehost, etc etc, and type there URL in. I did someone that was on godaddy, I found close to 300 sites

Well, these things are common.. I guess even AmpHosted does that.. I never looked at mine... gonna check it though
My blog, which I'm really working hard on, is doing quite ok... and many good websites there are on shared hosting so I guess it's still ok.
