It is most popular because its free! And runs on linux for free.
Otherwise I think asp.net would be ALOT more popular but ppl cant afford Windows servers.

ASP is a lot harder to use as well. While I look at PHP as a scripting language I see ASP as a language.

PHP is very effective dirkfirst. If you know how to use it there are all kinds of things you can do with it.

What do you mean it's free? Aren't all programming languages free? Oh yeah, I think ColdFusion costs money. That's stupid, having to pay for a programming language, but I forget if it actually does cost money.

PHP is 100% free. You can download the library and program in it free. Most servers support it, either windows or linux.

Yeah, why should someone have to pay for a programming language when there are BETTER, free-er ones out there.
