how update an old php script

I have an old php autosurf script that i got from ebay with ebooks i purchased a year back. But everytime I upload it it shows errors i did everything in the instructions them i look at the script it self it was created in 2002. Someone told me that you had to recode or update the script or whatever you call it i don't know the php lingo yet so please forgive me. I uploaded the script to an file sharing site can someone download it and look at and tell me how to fix the script where it will work with php 5. In index.php change $DOCUMENT_ROOT to $_SERVER["DOCUMENT_ROOT"]
