    Now that you've been using Gentoo for a while...
    Do you find yourself installing less and less? When I had Gentoo, I rarely installed apps just to "check them out" and see if I liked them. It was much more of a hassle than other systems which had point and click install, or even better, point and click uninstall.

As some of you may have noticed I'm developing a slight obsession with Linux and *nix systems in general. It's something that's crept up on me slowly. I first began using Unix at university and soon started wondering about installing it in my my own system.

I started off with Mandriva 8.2 and, maybe somewhat predictably, occidentally wiped the whole hard drive. The second attempt went much more smoothly and I had a nice dual boot system with Mandriva and XP. For whatever reason

#!crunchbang linux

by Hignar on 09-16-2009 at 12:04 PM
I stumbled upon this distro quite by accident. The homepage can be found here. Either I wasn't aware of them before or there have been a lot of Ubuntu derivatives popping up recently, or at least they have been getting more attention than previously.

Anyway, crunchbang seems to be focused on performance and I can't really fault it on this front. Using just 170mb of ram when first booted seems pretty good to me. The lack of either gnome or KDE was a little off putting at first
