That's true, Internet Explorer has a lot of problems. The newer versions aren't so bad but it's still very inferior to Firefox.

To patch the security holes.

All apps have bugs. Just try writing a few of your own, and you'll see. Also, many of the features in IE, such as tabbed browsing, would not be present if it were not for its rival, FF.

Yup, to fix bugs and security holes! And maybe Xav is right, tabbed browsing in IE might be because of FF.

Definitely, whenever Internet Explorer has an upgrade, it just takes what Firefox did in their last update.

But then again, M$ should just give up and ship Firefox with Windows instead of Internet Explorer. There's just no excuse to use it.
