    Question Alternative To Bootcamp

    Hello All,

I'm saving up for an iMac and know that Bootcamp is used to execute dual-boots and triple-boots but do you have to use it?

For example, could I just buy Windows 7 and load it on without Bootcamp?

    Thanks.

    Re: Alternative To Bootcamp

I recommend avoiding bootcamp unless this machine is being used to teach a class or is apart of a business that has I.T. on staff and knowledgable in OS X. Here is why, if you dual boot through bootcamp (which is great) and Windows decides to fail loading the start.exe Windows process than you will eventually after hours of battling this, be forced to re-install your entire system including the OS X side. When Windows does damage it takes the whole team out not just the little guys.

So, what are your other options to install Windows on OS X?? I would have to go with Virtualbox if you are one that is involved in learning, I.T, and open source. However if you are just looking to get it on your machine without a lot of configuration (and thats fine too) than I would probably use VMware Fusion. I WOULD STAY AWAY FROM PARALLELS.

Hope everything works out for you!! Feel free to contact with questions!
