as title says. is mac really based off unix????
Yes, Mac OS X is based on FreeBSD/Unix. From the official Apple Site:
Apple - Mac OS X Leopard - Technology - UNIXLeopard is an Open Brand UNIX 03 Registered Product, conforming to the SUSv3 and POSIX 1003.1 specifications for the C API, Shell Utilities, and Threads. Since Leopard can compile and run all your existing UNIX code, you can deploy it in environments that demand full conformance — complete with hooks to maintain compatibility with existing software.
so all my my linux and unix code will work in mac???
It will need to be compiled for that platform but yes, it should work as long as Mac OS X has the same libraries that you used in Linux/Unix.
so i cant compile it in linux and expect it to work in mac???
(i know this can't be done with windows)
Nope.
This is one of the reasons I like Mac so well. It takes Linux/Unix and makes it look good!
i like mac's multiple user interface alot but i'd take windows over it
Really? I think Mac Leopard looks so much better than Windows and I like using the backend (Unix) as well.
I tried MAC.. IMO it looks too simple.. after like 1 hour I installed it, I got bored lol... I was more excited while installing it on my MSI laptop, rather than using it...
