I've searched on the net and found no answer. Is there anyway to disable the annoying startup sound in Mac OS X Leopard?
I got tons of results on Google. Here's one of them: http://www.tech-recipes.com/rx/2721/..._startup_sound
Those all, including the link you gave, tell you to mute your sound before reboot and unmute after boot (or use that software). I'm looking for a real solution that actually removes the sound.
I believe this is built into the hardware somehow and there is no method of disabling it other than muting your sound....
I work with a guy that hates this. He has found no solution and I'm almost certain it is in the hardware because Hacintosh (mac hacked to run on regular IBMs) do not have this startup sound.
hmm is mac's sound this much annoying that one wants to remove it completely .. ???

Not the sound, the startup sound which cannot be muted at boot.
Hmm, yes I believe the sound can be traced back to the hardware. I refer to it as the "Dong" as to me that is what it sounds like. This comes in handy when you want to make sure that the hardware has not suffered any damages.
There should be a way to disable it, IMO.
Mute button FTW, this should do it for you at least.
