Selecting multiple items on Mac

In Windows I can hold down "Ctrl" and left-click to select multiple items. That feature doesn't appear to be valid on Mac OSX though. Anyone know how I can select multiple items?

In MAC OS X you can accomplish the same thing by holding down the "Apple" key then left click on items you want to select.

Or it is the Windows key if you are using a MS keyboard.
