    Re: a little help

Some people recommend learning languages like ruby and python before stepping into more complex languages like C++ or Java. It also depends on what type of programming you want to do. If you are into web pages, learn HTML then move into JavaScript, PHP, or other web programming languages. If you are more into desktop application development, VB.Net, C++, C#, or Java may be more your style. It is really up to you to decide what language you want to learn first, and its mostly based on what your intentions are.

No problem. Also, another good place to start might be by reading this tutorial by one of our members, Donovan. He outlines a lot of information regarding starting programming in the tutorial. Best of luck!

    Re: a little help

There's as many answers to that question as there are coders. Usually, they will reflect a person's learning experience and language preferences. I've seen C, Pascal, QBasic, and Java all used as first languages. I've heard of even more, from Python to C++. Start with where you can get resources (books, web, whatever) that make sense to you and go with the language they describe.
Programming is a branch of mathematics.
