Geek moments

Today I was reading a book on computer hardware and I wanted to find a word, and I felt frustrated because I couldn't do a regular expression search. That was my geek moment. What are some of your moments that demonstrated your geekiness?

I am sometimes writing ; at the end of sentences, mostly on paper.

Sometimes, when I make a mistake with a pen while writing something on paper, I instinctively look for CTRL Z on an imaginary keyboard. Takes me half a second to realize the terrible truth

This happened to me a couple times when I was writing a essay a while back.

I'm really shy and overall socially inept, so anytime around people is a geek moment for me. Especially around girls I just get nervous and I can't talk to them.
The most recent geek moment besides that would be my Pre-Calculus final. I got a 105% and everyone was like "Holy Cow!!! How did you do that?!?!". It was easy though, I didn't even show any work.
I know there's a lot more. I'll think of them later.

I wish I could go back to the days when I would get A's on everything. Now that I'm in college, my grades suck.

Unless i am at work i set at my computer just about all day every day unless i am reading a book. My cloths are geeky, my sence of humor is geeky, my frineds are geeky. On the rare ocasion that i try to interact with people that are not geeks they look at me like a dog listining to a high pitch sound.

If you are smart, the doesn't meen you have to be a geek. If people would try, they could both be smart and have a good social life. You could take some examples from others, if if they are stupid as ****, not everything is bad about them.

The geeky sence of humor is changeble, just read some normal jokes on the internet and memorize them. Of course, that doesn't mean that you can't tell Star Wars jokes when youre with your buddies.

Cloths are geeky - no offence, but start buying your own clothes.

Also, everybody should practice some sport, it's good for your health and social life, and it is also really fun.

Reading is good, you can keep that .

Remember though, if your happy the way you are, don't ever change.

I like being a geek. I do buy my own cloths BTW. I buy all my shirts from think geek and jinx for the most part, and i wear kakis for my pants because that is what i am comfortable in. I also find "normal" jokes rather offensive they are all either about sex, drinking, racism (i work with rednecks), sexism, or sports ..... I find none of that funny.

As for sports i played them all my life to help control the hyperactive part of my ADHD. I played all year round since i was 8 (football, baseball, and wrestling) I don't find them fun anymore, I found a place where people don't mind if I’m a bit shy and awkward when trying to talk to them. Not only that but sence i started programming I can concentrate on things a lot better my life isn't one big day dream, I have no desire to give up the clarity that being a geek has brought me. While in college i got to feel what it was like for my peers to view me as smart, I have no desire to go back to being the dumb jock. I am happy with how life is now so as your last sentence says I don't plan on changing.

That sais everything, don't change. As for people, remember, you have nothing to lose if you talk to somebody, being shy is normal, we all are on one point, but it's easy to overcome.

I would rather respect a smart person instead of a "cool" one.

I don't really like to be geeky, I like to be nerdy)). IMO there is a difference. Ah.. a nerdy thing I've done before is when I attended one of my NZCS conferences with some guy mates I wrote down my "name" in binary and I got a few people coming up to me saying things like "you know that you wrote down -19362" and w/e.

I'm proud to call myself a nerd, why would you want to be ashamed of the fact that all computers bow down to your super-power-ness? We're smart people, we're in one of the most leading jobs of the future, why hide that?

One thing I don't like about the word nerd, though, is all the stereotypes that come along with it. I'm not antisocial - I'm mates with like every guy in IT, I'm not a lesbo just because I'm the only girl in Software Engineering, I'm not obese because I don't do any exercise and I do actually have a tan because I don't spend my life on my computer.
