Hello everyone,
I am a remodeling contractor. About 7 yrs. ago I developed some spreadsheets in OpenOffice calc. I use them to do my material estimating and costs for my jobs. These are not complicated at all, as a matter of fact they are stupid easy to use, but most importantly they are very accurate.
Now then, I would like to put them on a website, that both other contractor's can use, as well as the do-it-yourselfer community.
I don't have a clue how to get these to run on the Web. I have gone on other forums to try to get answers, and unfortunately in the replies that I have gotten, there are usually a word or phrase that I have no idea what it means, and then would have to look up the word or phrase on the web to find out what it means, which just causes me to have more questions and so on, and so, on.....
I would like to work with a programmer but I would like to sound like I know just a little bit about what I'm talking about.
Things I would like to do:
Put them on my website to:
1. Use for trial period.
2. Download for fee.
3. Some would be free to use.
4. Possible App for smartphones.
Helpful replies would be:
What language or languages (the best for most browsers)will I need to develop this.
Are there any sites for absolute newbie's, dummies for programming this. (my last course of action)
The way I understand it now, is that if this is a standalone program, I can pretty much do what I want with it. True? not True?
Well that's about it. If anyone can help me with this, I would be forever grateful.
Also, if anyone is reading this that does this kind of programming, and is interested in working with me, let me know that too. I have searched for these type of estimators till my fingers turn blue, and can not find anything like them, that's of course if you choose not to spend hundreds or thousands of dollars for a program that includes more stuff then you'll ever use. I think I've got a good one here, so if your interested let me know.
Anyway, thanks for reading and HHHEEELLLPPP!!!
You will probably need to learn PHP, HTML, CSS, and SQL for the website. For smart phones, you'll need to learn the appropriate language for doing development on that phone (Objective-C for iPhone, .NET for Windows Mobile, unsure about Droid).
