OK I have been getting a lot of heat about liking Windows Vista and I want to know why every one hates Vista and why every one seems to like Linux.
(Don't freak out on me either I just want a honest opinion why Linux is better than Vista.)

Not everybody likes Linux and not everybody hates Vista.
I think more programmers like Linux just because it's open source which gives it a good reputation, which most programmers hate on Microsoft no matter what they do.
Vista got a bad rep mainly cause it took a long time to boot and had a ton of extra processes.
Me personally it never ran my emulators which I play all the time, even when I switched to XP compatibility mode. The look and feel is weird but I'm sure I'd get use to that. Windows 7's look and feel is pretty much the same but from what I've heard it runs and boots faster.
Some Linux versions can boot in seconds. It's open source and free. Which makes it better for programmers (free) cause where all cheap.![]()
Additionally, Vista had quite some child deceases in the beginning that made a lot of people scared of it. Companies got uncertain to exchange xp to vista as they might be in trouble and therefore they stayed with xp. Most of the child deceases was cured in SP1, but the rumor was there. It was still slower than xp, so many taught that lets wait for a successor instead of upgrade now.

After I bought my PC with vista pre-installed, I immediatley preferred my older XP OS, just because of the long boot time.
Vista has too many graphics and enhanced GUI which looks good but takes too much RAM, I've disabled all the glossy menus and ehanced look and now it runs much faster.
Check out this video to make your vista run faster: YouTube - How To Make Vista Run A ton Faster (easy)
Ok Thanks guys I'll look into that vid and maybe I'll download a free copy and try it.BTW if i put this as my OS will it erase all my stuff?

Vista works fine for me, it's just very annoying, and there is some software that's just not compatible with it, like older versions of Microsoft software.
I used to have XP, and that was pretty good, but my computer died because of age, and the new one has Vista as an OS...
For me, XP did everything I wanted, and Vista gave me nothing but (minor) irritations... except when things broke badly. It's better now, but I still have that bad taste in my mouth.
Linux "just works" which is why I like it.
You can install LInux side-by-side with Vista.
Well.. I like Vista and I don't like Linux..so I don't see any problems.. I believe it's just someone's own opinion and now people wanna think a like because that guy or girl was coool.. or something like that..
@Blain ya I'll back up every thing if I decide to try it.
@Jaan ya I like vista a lot personally.
