    Ubuntu Softwares

The popularity of linux has finally captured 1% of world desktops. then comes the need for softwares. Personally, I am a Ubuntu linux user. Now, there are a lot of top Ubuntu software posts available on the internet and all of them narrow down to around 7 applications when combined. Not so cool!
Here is my list of softwares i have on my Ubuntu installation.

    Billiards GL

This game has a sleek and smooth graphics created with Python. The interface is so interactive and features such attractive effects, youll just love it. The gameplay is also as good as any other billiards game with 360 degree navigation. Dont miss it. Download from repositories.

    Armagetron

Armagetron is my current favourite game on ubuntu linux. It is not as simple as it looks and needs quite some presence of mind to defeat the oppenent. Just try it once and make sure you dont get addicted to it.

    Desktop Flickr Organizer

This software adds a flickr organizer to your desktop. So,now you can update and synchronize your photostream with a few clicksownload today from on the desktop. Not only this, it has a split viewer panel which makes drag and drop valid. Another reason why i liked this software is that it is developed by an Indian. Check his homepage.

    Launchy

or those who cannot find their installed applications anywhere in GUI links, can use Launchy to find their applications. Not only this, launchy can also find command line applications.

    Xaos Fractal

Fractals are one of the most facsinating discoveries of mathematics. But i suck at mathematics. So in a few words, try out this software. It can generate around 30 fractals from custom functions and there are different rendering options available as well.

    Kasablanca

Kasablanka is a lightening fast ftp client for Unix based servers. And when i say lightening,it really means lightening. It can upoload files atleast 30% to 40% faster than filezilla or gFTP.

The list never ends. Add any useful softwares you find.

    Re: Ubuntu Softwares

    I would've thought that:

    Code:
    sudo apt-get install amarok
Would install it? When I run that I get:

    pythonpower@pythonpower-laptop:~$ sudo apt-get install amarok
    [sudo] password for pythonpower:
    Reading package lists... Done
    Building dependency tree
    Reading state information... Done
amarok is already the newest version.
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 2 not upgraded.
    But that's on Kubuntu 9.04.
