    Customize gnome interface per group

I am trying to deploy several Ubuntu netbooks into our existing infrastructure. I've been able to authenticate with active directory and map the users' network drive. I am now trying to customize Gnome based on who is logs in. For example, if network administrators login, I would like them to have the System menu and a terminal icon on their desktop. If a regular user logs in, I would like it to hide the System menu.

To hide the System menu I can only think editing the applications.menu or gconf and gconftool.
