access denied - /proc/acpi/

When we go inside the path "/proc/acpi/", there is a file called "event" present. However "Vi event" just opens an empty file. Although the file opens, it says access denied opening the file although I am on my root account. Would like to know what exactly is an event here and why is it empty and why it says access denied? Please enlighten on this.
