Is there big difference between Ubuntu and Fedora or something else, or whatever you prefers?
At work we mainly deal with pictures and photos and online browsing, so is there one better for these jobs than another.
We are installing certain new computers with Linux, and planning to install all machines with linux, but first us technicians have to get to know Linux more.. so for now we only have a couple test machines
It depends on how you're judging them. They have different default package managers, but you may or may not view that as a big difference. They have different installers, different default software included, etc, etc, etc. Which of these, if any, you consider to be a big difference is hard to say. They'll both browse the internet and view pictures without much issue.
So basically you just install one, then install some required 3rd party software and it will still get the job right... right?
I want to say "yes", but I have a feeling there are dozens of things you aren't saying that could potentially impact the answer.
Have you considered using one or two computers as test systems and doing a side-by-side comparison? Without knowing what programs you want to install, what dependencies they have, etc., it's hard to give a 100% affirmative response without a few details.
As an example, Corel put out a version of WordPerfect for Linux a few years ago. It requires a specific version of a library in order to run. I have a Linux notebook with a fairly recent version of Linux, but I could not find the library to make WordPerfect run on it. I would actually have to get a fairly old version of Linux to use WordPerfect. Go figure. On the other hand, if you're looking for something that requires KDE 4.3, you could also have issues since not all distros include it by default yet! So very old/new software can have issues.
Yes, at work we are installing various distros for testing purposes.. maybe I will include this in the to test list.
