Transform any Linux OS into a server?

Can this be done? I mean, on windows if I install some software, my Vista can be transformed into a server... can this be done with any linux OS too?

Yup! You can install telnet, SSH, Apache (websites), PHP, Samba, and many more things that will instantly transform your computer into a server. You probably already have some of these things installed.

It is indeed easy to transform a linux pc in to a server. There is no big deal. You need to install certain softwares and go..
The problem with transferring PC in to server comes from the service part. If something oges wrong it takes time to settle the issue. But if some thing happens with outsider hosting majors they have a host of engineers and they will rectify it in minutes.

I would like to have an opinion from a person who trasferred his PC in to a server. Is it ok? Please inform the advantages and disadvantages of making our pc a server

Based on your question, I think you are assuming a PC is somehow different from a "server computer". The differences are perspective and original intended purpose. I'm currently working on an EEE PC with 4GB hard drive. 20 years ago it could have been used as a server anywhere without question. Today it is a low-powered "toy" computer.

No, that was not my question... my question was not on the hardware side.. but on the software side...

There are so many server distros out there... so why not just install a normal OS, like Ubuntu and make it act as a server, instead of creating all those server OSes?
