So, let's say I want to make my own OS.. I need some other Os to start working on (to have the tools etc...) Is windows good to start programming a Linux OS on it?
To program an OS, all you really need is a programming language (such as C or assembler) and a compiler (such as GCC). Of course, you may need to customize the compiler.
Are you trying to base your new OS on the Linux Kernel? If you are starting from scratch you may want to check out our Sister forum, CodeCall.net.
@Winged: So basically if I find a compiler on Windows, I can program Linux on Windows... cool!
@Jordan: I still don't know, I think having a Linux kernel simplifies things.. yes?
I think you can start building an OS on the Ubuntu minimal CD... unless you want something else..
Does that mean that my OS will be a Ubuntu?
Nah, I don't think so.. but I guess it will be built on it...
Hmm, ok. So Xubuntu, Kubuntu etc... has nothing to do with that?
I don't know about Xubuntu etc... but I don't think they were developed on the Ubuntu MinimalCD....
