    File missing

I have Windows XP and Ubuntu , when the option comes to choose from any two , when i select ubuntu and after a moment i get the error
    File missing or corrupt
    windows_root>system32\hal.dll

so what is the problem?i installed ubuntu from live cd i.e when i was in XP i inserted the disc and installed it in a drive . So any idea why i am getting that error?cause it has been working fine from around 2 weeks

    Re: File missing

Boot up your system with a Windows recovery disk and run chkdisk, fix all errors on your NTFS partition. There is a common error of boot records fragmenting when another partition is mounted when the host drive is already fragmented, it should allow you to boot up.

Further check your GRUB records and make sure they point to the appropriate drives. Windows whines when the filesystem is touched.
