    Why no sound??

Well, I am running Linux Ubuntu 9.04(i think the most current) and I have no sound except the log in screen. After I log on I can't hear anything. I try Youtube.com for sound test and I use the build in sound test.

I thought it was the on-board sound and put a card in but that doesn't seem to be the problem. (I am not fantastic with Ubuntu or Linux. I am just trying to learn it by myself lol)
The OS has found both the onboard and Sound card and When i tested them before the test sounds work. After I installed a linux version of Wolfenstein Enemy Territory I lost sound. I read some where you have to open the wolfenstein console and do a command line like /r_<commandnamething> but that did nothing. All I am using this old ass computer for is this game and school work so If anyone could help me at all it would be a great. Right now I am stuck at . Help!

    Thanks,
    Kaleb

    Re: Why no sound??

Ahh, the wonderful world of Linux Sound Support.

If the sound is working in tests, it might be that there's some kind of output volume control that has been left muted by the install. Try right-clicking the little sound icon and selecting "Open Volume Control" (Next to the trashcan and the current time). There's a dialog, and see if anything is muted or turned really low. If so, un-mute it.

If that's not working, click the preferences button and add EVERY SINGLE PLAYBACK OPTION, then unmute all of them and test again.

If that works, find out which one is working by playing a song or something and just muting them one at a time until you find the one that's the culprit. If that still doesn't work, check out Ubuntu's "Sound Troubleshooting" and the "Comprehensive Sound Problem Solutions Guide". Those could help you more than I can.

You'll get sound working, it's just a matter of tweaking. The best comparison I found was an OS Airline Joke I read.
    Wow I changed my sig!

Sound Support is probally not supported, but if you hear the sound in the boot up screen.. You may just need to tweak it a bit.
