I have installed Ubuntu on an external HDD. But I was wondering whether it is possible to take the HDD and connect to some other computer and work normally? Because I tried it on another computer, but it did not work.
When you install, there are a number of settings/drivers that are specific to the computer it was installed on.
You also might note that you need to change the boot order to boot to that before the local disc if it exists.
I believe WP is correct but it still might work. I know Windows however tells you to reenter in the validation code if the hardware changes too much.. but you have ubuntu so I wouldnt worry about it.
It has worked. Try it! It won't work well with Windows but Linux may do fine.
WingedPanther: Is there a way I could install all drivers possible? To have maximal compatability?
@Blaine: Yeah I know
@relapse: I did try it.. but did not work
That's basically what Live CD's are.
Yes.. but can I install it on my hdd that way? (to be like a live cd.. but of course it saves changes etc..)
There are some Live distros that are set up to be run off a HDD.
Can you name a few please? Instead of burning the ISO can I just extract the ISO to the HDD?
I don't know them off-hand. I read a lot of tech articles, so know what is possible, but don't recall all the details.
