I'd like to install Linux on my USB memory stick, but i don't know what would be the best. DSL? puppy linux? slax? or something else? i need it most for programming, so the appeareance isn't very important. what would you recommend?
lol. ok. nobody had an idea so i downloaded puppy linux 4.2
it has geany, but no compiler.. palmface. but, all in all it looks good..
I use Ubuntu on perndrive. It loads quite fast and got r/w option on that. Since, you'll be using that for programming purposes, I think Ubuntu will be good as it comes with the gcc compiler.
Give it a try...
DSL is very lightweight and slight optimized to run off of flash mediums (As they sell silent workstations that use flash as a money making project)
Flash can only handle so many read/write cycles before it starts to degrade, FYI.
The one nice feature of it is the package system, which even an absolute beginner can use, and I know there are packages for GCC, binutils, nasm, and everything else you could need.
If you want to boot the USB, you need your computer bios support this first.
I used Puppy Linux since I say it as the most popular light linux.
