How to set-up a client-server with # clients where you have one domain
example.com and any user on any clientpc can login with his username and password and gets his home dir ?
I suppose you need to use openldap or A.D. What are the changes needed on client pc's (who aren't all the same hardware, and thus not the same config).
Which possible solutions are there ? We do not want to use NIS.
Creating users on a central server and using Samba will allow users to login via file sharing or SSH into the computer and access their home directories.
Isn't Samba used to share folders and files with Windows users?
Yup, that is correct.. but maybe it has more than one use...
Well, Samba is not the thing I had in mind : it is for Windows users. Not for Linux users...
I want to create a domain for Linuxusers (only) and with a login to that domain I will be allowed to any (linux)pc in that domain and my profile and setting travel with me.
It is not the ordinary setup installed onto your linuxpc.
Mapping to an server of home dir and etc could be but is not exact what I want.
Central maintance and controlling acces is.![]()
