Vista has it's very own partition tool.

    1. Click Start
    2. Right-click Computer
    3. Select "Manage"
    4. Select Disk Management (Under Storage)
    5. In Disk 0 (since you are using a laptop with one HD) right click on your primary partition (your Vista partition).
    6. Select "Shrink Volume"
    7. Enter the amount of space to shrink and click "Shrink". This is the amount of space you want free for Linux. This is in MB so enter 20000 for 20 GB. 100000 for 100GB.
This will create empty space not used by a partition. When you boot into openSuSe 11 the installer will find this empty space and suggest a Linux Partition Scheme on that empty space. Make sure you look at it first to ensure it is not overwriting your Windows Partition.

Just put your boot CD in and let the installer run. It will partition your drive. It is in the last paragraph from Jordan's post above.
