Well, I saw some screenshots of openSUSE 11 and figured I would give it a go. I downloaded the 64 bit DVD image and popped it in. The installation was fine but there are problems when I boot. I have a NVidia video card and it works fine in Ubuntu 8 and Sabayon.
1) X Windows does not start. I'm thrusted into the console and have no idea what to do. startX doesn't do anything.
2) I can see some pretty odd errors like:
Anyone have any ideas on how to resolve this? I'm currently re-installing to see if that makes a difference.touch: cannot touch 'var/cache/sax/files/reinit': no such file or directory
touch: cannot touch 'var/cache/sax/files/hardware.chg': no such file or directory
I bet if you look through your log file (/var/log/messages) you will find this error on several files. I know cause I spent several hours (about 13 hours) fixing this same problem on one of my installs.
You know what the problem was? Bad DVD disc.... Reboot with the install disk and verify it. I bet you anything it will fail.
All I did was reburn the ISO and re-installed. Everything worked perfect. If you still get the error then you may need to redownload the ISO. If you still get the error after that re-install then your HD may be messed up.
