I agree, if it worked in one distro you can probably get it to work in another distro. If not, you can always use NDISWRAPPER and use your windows drivers to get hardware items working properly.
Installing a vista on a computer is a hard task. You must possses certain ram and hard disk along with graphics card etc. Linux can be installed with out these extra ordinary requirements. There are many companies like Dell and Sahara sell their Laptops pre loaded with Linux.
A laptop is hundred percent compatible with Linux. Do not worry about it. There are problems with some drivers and updates that can be managed with open source updates.
One question I would ask is what is the major problem you have experienced when you operate a Linux computer. I haven't found any. If there are any specific problems we can talk about it
Lack of drivers IS a compatibility issue. Wireless cards and winmodems are the primary source of problems, with occasional video card issues.
Let's not forget about the printers too... they are such a headache!
Yeah... but thats not part of the laptop lol.
That is not said. A laptop could come with 100 percent compatible for Linux. But, there are certain updates required for certain kind of programs that we have to keep on updating.Drivers are certainly an issue which we must address to
i think so too. you could encounter some drivers installed but undetected or not functioning well with linux but its up to you on how you work things out.
linux is compatible with most laptops. there are drivers for your old hardware in Linux.
All distros are compatible, some just need more work than others.
For future users (as this thread is probably no longer read by the creator),
Ubuntu is nice, it quickly adapts to things such as wireless adapters (even when they need you to install beefy programs on windows!).
My advice is to get Windows then try dual booting...
Please, write clearly with proper structure. Double spacing makes the text feel un-jointed, Capitalizing Every Word Means People Stop Before Every Word Sub-Consciously Which Is A Pain In The Backside, and use code tags! (The right most styling box).
