I've been running some test machines and stuff at work, now I want to remove all the games that come installed with Linux and possibly block the user from installing games
How can I achieve this?
Uninstalling should be easy with synaptic or another package manager. If the user is not root, then installing isn't possible.
Don't allow the user the ability to install any software and if you need to block online games setup a proxy or firewall at the network level.
Yeah they shouldnt be able to if not root.
Hi WhyLinux,
This problems seems like it would be best solved if you hosted your own distribution package repository on your network and configuring all your desktops to use your mirror, instead of the the distribution's primary package archive.
In this case, all you would have to do is remove the games packages(or any others you don't like from your mirror) and they will be uninstalled from the clients as well. Also your users will still be able to install new software through the package manager, but not software that you have not approved.
This also comes with the benefit of giving you the ability to test updates provided by your distribution, and only push updates you've tested by putting them on your local mirror(or in the case that you do not test every single update, it gives you the ability to block updates that do cause problems by removing them from your mirror if your mirror syncs automatically).
