So what's the best web browser for Linux?
I've just installed openSUSE Linux Distro 64-bit (Gnome) and FireFox is really freakin' slow!
It's a major disappointment. I wish Google Chrome was released for Linux but it's not yet.![]()
FireFox! Opera and Konquer stink. I'm not aware of many others. There is Lynx but it is for text based browsing only. FireFox has all of the same features as FF in Windows.
Is the speed issue with FF or with something else?
Slow loading the software and changing tabs or slow loading webpages? If the ladder, I'd have to say your Internet is slow.
My Interent isn't slow...it's something to do with FireFox or openSUSE.
I installed Opera and my Internet is lightning-fast again.
If Google Chrome ever gets released for linux, it'll be the win.
I agree. I have no idea why Google didn't release it for all platforms at once. They are big supporters of "Open Source" as is Linux. Makes no sense.
I don't have any problems with my FF installed in my Slackware. Did you try to tweak FF?
OpenSuse has issues with video card drivers which make ff lag when switching tabs or loading webpages. I've seen it happen with ATI.
I use FF on Mac & PC and don't experience these slowdowns, even with 70 Tabs open, It does use a little RAM with that many open, but I have plenty![]()
FF ftw! Hey, i would only use it and nothing else. Most browsers annoy me so much on their GUI, this one hits the spot perfectly.
