My friend showed me this. Open a terminal and simply type 'notepad'. It will actually load the Windows notepad. I think you have to have a Windows partition with Windows Installed.
I'm pretty sure it uses Wine.
You don't have to have Windows installed. This Notepad comes with Wine, like a sample application. It can be found in /usr/bin under the name notepad.exe. There are other Windows-applications available too. You could try out regedit.
I found this out by accident one day. It is pretty neat but I never used it other than the one time. It seems to me that MS would be upset that notepad.exe was being distributed with Wine though.
Ahh, I did not know it came with Wine. I thought it was part of openSuse. It does seem a bit odd that MS hasn't said anything, is it really the real notepad.exe though?
I think yes, because Wine emulates windows apps, so as thats what it's supposed to do, I think it is the real windows application.
This works on my install too! Cool!
Notepad is integrated in WINE by defaultI use it sometimes as well.
