Clear screen in Java?

Can anybody tell me how to clear the screen in java?
I am having trouble doing it.
I tries Runtimeexec to execute cls in DOS ,but it did not work.

In Linux/Unix and Win 9x you can use

System.out.println(((char) 27)+"[2J");

You can also try

final static String ESC = "\033[";
System.out.print(ESC + "2J"); System.out.flush();

As I understand, clear screen will not work on NT systems.

Well I think these commands work only in 9x or Unix.
DO you know any commands which work in XP?

for Jordan's code to work make sure you have ANSI.SYS loaded in your config.sys and even if you do there is a good chance it wont work

device=c:\windows\command\ansi.sys

as an alternative, since C++ has a native function to clear the screen you could try to invoke that

clrscr()

im not sure how to, but you can

or maybe

Runtime.getRuntime.exec("cmd clear");

maybe?
